Thermal limits
For applications up to 1000 starts per hour and 50% running time or less, Ts rating is within thermal limit. Beyond these parameters, SIPCO engineering should be contacted.

Lubrication
All sizes filled with synthetic oil Mobil SHC 634. Alway use Mobil SHC 634 or equivalent. Never use polyglycol lubricants. For optimum performance, oil should be changed every 10,000 hours of use. For mounting positions A1, A2, B1 and B2 lubricant should be filled to the wheel axis. For others, the fill line is the worm axis.

Input coupling selection
The input coupling for these gearboxes should be selected based on the peak torque that is to be transmitted from the motor. The coupling rating should be compared to the motor peak rating or the required torque for the application, which ever is greater. In some cases, a safety coupling can be used to protect the gearbox from overload. See coupling section for sizes and styles available.

Input motor adapter
SIPCO has standard and specially machined motor adapter bells to fit any motor. Important information to have when ordering an input bell with a TechnoGear® includes: pilot (AK); bolt circle (AJ); shaft length (AH); and shaft diameter (U), or provide motor part number or SIPCO code. Other options or important details are input coupling type and dimensions, mounting hole dimensions (tapped or through) and any special design or material requirements.

Absolute precision
The worm is cut with a variable-pitch lead screw. This process results in the lead's tooth becoming progressively thicker from one end to the other. To compliment, the worm wheel is hobbed with a special process such that the opposite flanks of the teeth have the same angle as the worm lead teeth. This means there is exact contact on both sides of different worm thread and wheel teeth.

Backlash adjustment
This series (R) of absolute precision gears is delivered ready-to-use. A run-in time of 24 hours is suggested prior to use. Adjustment is done at the factory to achieve the minimum backlash (less than one arc minute) before the product is shipped to the customer. Adjustments can be made by loosening the locking nut at the adjustment end of the worm gear (opposite the input side) and turning the internal nut. The input shaft will move away from the gearbox as the backlash is reduced. This is accomplished by moving a thicker section of the worm lead into the worm wheel. Complete instructions are located in the service manual. For best results, SIPCO should perform any necessary adjustments.
